Where were you?
I'll never forget where I was when I heard about Brett Favre's retirement. I was actually speaking to a group of Cheesehead pastors in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. And I just said, "Let's pray that Favre plays one more year." One of the pastors interrupted me and said he just got a text message that Favre retired. I thought it was a really bad joke. It wasn't. All of the energy went out of the room. We actually took a five minute break so I could collect my thoughts.
Sad day for Packer's fans!

That's about the quickest answer to prayer I've ever heard of. lol
But seriously, ouch.
I was in a staff meeting and I got up and walked out.
I'm happy for Favre (he went out on a good note) but sad for me & my son on Sundays.
We're huge Pack fans!
I was downtown INDY literally looking at the new home stadium of the Colts from my hotel room, thinking Peyton is now all by himself as the elite QB in the NFL. Next season won't be as fun to watch (although I do like the Colts).
I was at work and a friend shot me a chat message...
I was drivng around all over the countryside near Stevens Point/Plover feeling frustrated that I couldn't find you guys. And it got worse when the announcement came on the radio. :-(
Mark, I was actually in the room with you at the time of the conference. I like and respect Favre as a quarterback and though I like in Wisconsin I'm just a fairwweather fan. I saw it coming, but to see the reaction in that room and that you had, I must admit, was slightly farcical (I used a thesauras for that one)
Enjoyed the conference - I can already feel my right-brain in overdrive!
I was getting an ice creme with my senior pastor at The Marble Slab Creamery. We heard the news on the radio over the establishment's speakers. It was big news. I can relate as a life long Denver fan; I miss Elway!
I was at Panera Bread...working on my comp. I still can't believe he's done; it's so surreal! I have tons of respect for Favre. He will be hugely missed...
Until yesterday, I always thought that Favre retiring would be the biggest thing of the day for me, whenever it happened. Ironically, I was sick yesterday (and today) and laid in bed all day reading In a Pit... My wife came in that evening and told me that while playing outside with our kids, our neighbor had told her that Favre had retired (he's a Bears fan and knows I bleed Green and Gold).
It was really a God thing for my laptop battery to have died early on in the day, I was too tired to go downstairs and get the charger, so I didn't have anything but your book. If I'd had all my internet access, I would have spent the whole day online reading about Brett and the Primaries.
Instead, I had a convicting day reading your book, and God even appointed an opportunity for me to have an uninterrupted time of serious confession with my wife that evening when our neighbors took our girls for a little while.
The thing about Favre's retirement I'll always remember that I didn't find out until like 8 hours after the rest of the world, but I'll mostly remember the fear in me seeing my wife come in to our room, knowing that we were alone and that this was God telling me that we had the opportunity to talk about more than Brett, and I needed to not chicken out.
Who's Brent Favre? But as a Chi-town girl, I sure can tell you where I was when MJ retired. : (
Kurt,
Wow. Sounds like our prayer that IAPWALOASD would get into the right hands at the right time was answered again!
Mark
Sad day for NFL football, great day for Vikings fans!!
I was listening to a great guy named Mark Batterson making an illustration to a point saying something like, "what if Brett Favre were to retire" (or something like that) and about four of us in the back raised our hands and said it just happened....ha!
Thanks for giving us cheesehead pastors an immediate 5 minute break to pull it together.
p.s. Thanks for time you took to share with us. I'm a campus pastor of a multi-site, video based church! I appreciated the encourging words and ideas I heard.
