Day Off

I love my day off. During the school year I take Wednesdays off because our kids have a half-day of school. Lora and I usually hit a coffeehouse and hang out. Yesterday it was Firehook on the Senate side of the hill. And it was so beautiful we just walked around the Capitol. Felt like tourists! A ton of class trips during this time of year. I wonder how many pictures we inadvertently ended up in yesterday.

In the afternoon, we took the kids to the National Arboretum. Pretty cool "sanctuary" in the middle of the city. Josiah must have ridden his scooter about a mile yesterday. And Summer and her friends rode in the back of our mini-van with the back hatch up and legs dangling until we got pulled over by a very zealous security guard who told us we can't do that.

Last night I went to Parker's Lacrosse practice. Honestly, I've never played Lacrosse and I don't even know the rules. But I might get a Lacrosse stick so Parker and I can play catch. Pretty cool game.

Totally unrelated to this post but I had to let you know I have seen Malnati's pizza show up here over and over again so I had to bring my jr. high ministry staff there while we were in Chicago last week! We went just before we were to leave for home and almost missed our flight because of it BUT it was totally worth it!

Mark,

A lacrosse fact you might not know...

Jake “Body by Jake” Steinfeld is one of the founders of Major League Lacrosse (http://www.majorleaguelacrosse.com).
He's trying to make it a huge sport like football & basketball.

If Parker gets good maybe he'll be the first national lacrosse sports hero! :)

How did I know this random piece of info, since I know nothing at all about lacrosse and have never even see it?

I read it in Jake's Business/Entrepreneur book "I've Seen A Lot Of Famous People Naked And They've Got Nothing On You!"

(The book is actually surprisingly pretty good. And don't let the title weird you out. It's has nothing bad in it. It's his story of "making it", the lessons he's learned, and it focuses on the fact that people who are successful are just regular people.)

I thought you'd appreciate the obscure book reference, since I know you're like me and read from random and obscure books that other pastors might not know of or read. :)

Lacrosse TOTALLY rocks - my son played in middle school and high school! It's basically ice hockey on grass....ha! ha!

Enjoyed reading your Q & A in this month's Leadership Journal! I had to laugh when you mentioned the Junky Car Club!
