Really enjoyed Brian McLaren's session at Arise. I owe Brian a personal debt of gratitude because he connected me with my agent about three years ago. Not sure if In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day would be in print if it weren't for Brian. And I love the way Brian challenges the church to think and rethink!
One thing in particular struck me. He said, "In order to make poverty history we must make poverty personal." So true! I feel like my trip to Ethiopia helped make it personal. Poverty isn't an issue. It's a face! It's a soul.
Jesus said: "I have to come to preach good news to the poor." We leave off the last word.
By the way, I bought some amazing recycled bags from an organization called Trade As One that Willow invited to be at the conference. Love their mission.
