I Used to be a Packers Fan

Bookmark and Share

I go away to the Grand Canyon for a week and things get crazy in Green Bay. Alright, my blog title is a little dramatic and a little overstated. But I've gotta post on this. How can you not let Brett Favre unretire? Are you kidding me? He is the Packers! He's the face. He's the heart. He's the soul. And you want to go with Aaron Rodgers?

I've been a Packers fan since our family moved to Wisconsin when I was seven. Die hard. I was totally depressed when Favre retired. I was actually in Wisconsin when he announced it. I start getting my hopes up when I hear rumors of his return. And now the Packers want to "move forward." I'm ticked at the Packers organization!

Favre for President.

Had to get that off my chest!

As a fellow Packer backer, I share your grief -- although I have a slightly different perspective on it. I posted on it yesterday -- the Packers are really in a pickle with Brett's "un-retirement"

Mark,

Good thoughts on your blog. I've decided to be totally irrational and blog emotionally on this issue :) I want Favre back. To me, it would be close to the Bulls saying to Jordan "you can't come back" after his unretirement.

Tell Favre to quit trying to draw attention to himself and just decide whether or not he wants to be retired... quit waffling around. Favre is a joke.

And now you hate me. ;)

As a Bears fan, it would make me so unbelievably happy to have Brett Favre on my team I'd probably die of excitement. Not only would it be a great way to "stick it" to the Packers fans that enjoyed far too many victories at the hands of Favre but it'd be a huge improvement over our sad state of QB's on the present-day roster.

Patrick,

I don't hate you. But I am concerned about the state of your soul :)

Mark - Indeed a difficult situation. After several days of sorting through this myself, I am completely behind the Packer's decision thus far. I am a HUGE Farve fan but he isn't bigger than the Packer organization. They won 12 championships before him and will win many more after him. Best case is that they trade him (AFC would be best) for good talent! Start the Aaron Rodger years! Let Farve be someone else's problem. They can go through the same retirement saga that the Packers went through for years. Farve could do this each year for the next 5 easy. I doubt he will be able to help a struggling team. The good teams don't need him. The Packers gave him plenty of time to make his decision. Hope that you will come around in the coming days! Blessings for all you do, Brother!

Brian,

Aaron who? Rodgers :) Man, so far all he's done is insult the fans. I just don't think you say "no" to a hall of fame quarterback for a guy who's taken a couple meaningless snaps in a game.

I'm sure I'm not thinking about this straight. But I don't want to :)

If Favre comes back, it could be tatamount to Jordan playing ball with the Wizards. Sports figures should go out on top and leave the memory of them a pleasant one. Stay retired Brett, you'll thank yourself when you can still walk and eat solid foods 20 years from now. ;-) (I'm typing this as if Favre himself is going to read my comments here..LOL!)

What's the difference between Brett Favre and Terrell Owens at this point?

Or... dare I say... Pacman Jones?

Jeremy,

Awfully close to the unpardonable sin :)

Favre has been the "model" NFL player his entire career. An NFL ambassador. Owens and Jones? Not so much! Totally different categories in my humble and biased Packer's opinion :)

The Packers desperately need someone to throw more costly interceptions late in important games. I don't care if it's Favre or Rodgers...

Go Cowboys!

JC,

Here we go :)

You gotta get to the important games in order to throw those costly interceptions! Of course, maybe Favre could hold for extra points for the Cowboys :)

Come on. Bring it back!

Gotta love the football trash talking :)

It's too bad no one commenting can root for winning teams. Cowboys, Packers....LOL!
I mean, I do live in an area with some of the worst sports teams...Redskins, Nationals, Wizards...glad I'm not from this area, I'd be sad.

We're Dallas fans too ... but who doesn't love Brett. But if he can't play for the Packers he needs to stay out. No one wants to see him in anything but a Packers jersey.

Maybe they'll trade him to the Redskins -- and then he can go to NCC!

Sorry Mark...I live 15 minutes from Brett here in south MS. It has been all over the news for a year now as you can imagine. I made the statement to my wife that he would do this, 2 days after he retired. There is a love/hate for him in this part of the country. I say (and I have no interest in the Packers) build for the future!
