I bumped into one of our volunteers at 7:15 AM on Sunday morning and I was filled with such a profound appreciation for the people who make NCC happen week in and week out. They are the heart and soul of NCC. It takes a boatload of volunteers to make church happen in four locations. And I know it would be much more relaxing sleeping in on Sunday. So grateful for the people who are pouring their time and energy into NCC.
By the way, I don't love the word "volunteer". Any churches call their "volunteers" something else? It just doesn't seem to capture the heart or skill or passion of the people who serve.

We call them servants. Helps remind us what our real role is.
I agree the name does not give due credit. Any suggestions for a better name?
We call them "Investors" - I like the word "Investors" and it seems to be something that has worked well in our church culture.
At Mosaic, we call them "Volunteer Staff." I like it because I think it communicates ownership and value.
My church calls them partners. I think it gives the same sense of ownership and value that Aaron is talking about.
My first thought was partner as well, but I like investor too. I often refer to volunteers in my ministry as team members as well.
Mosaic's "volunteer staff" is my favorite so far.
Borrowing from Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, and Pastor Chris Hodge, we call our volunteers the "Dream Team." We place an emphasis on using the gifts that God has given you in order to fulfill the dreams that God has for you.
lion chasers?
lion chasers?
Mark... we call our "volunteers" ministry partners.
Mmmm... still thinking. We use to call them "influencers" - but as our team grew and more people were included in our BUILD OUR HOUSE days it doesn't quite seem to fit. At the moment they are known as the "Westlife Team" ... the make it happen people.
volunteer staff is cool
1 Corinthians 3:8 - 9 (KJV) 8Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. 9For we are
labourers together with God:
ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
We call our volunteers as a group "servant leaders" but in their specific ministry role "team members"
It would be nice if you could use the term that the first church used...Deacon. It is a sad day that the church as a whole has taken away the words servatude.
We are in the midst of starting a service to reach out to young adults here in Kissimmee/St. Cloud FL. called Connections.
We call ours "friends." It emphasizes the trust and confidence that we have in them. Not to mention the personal relationship that we share. It also goes along with the idea that we are all Ministers of Connections. I'm not "the" minister of Connections. I am one of many.
I just think that someone would rather speak to one of the ministers friends then one of his volunteers.
At Puyallup Foursquare we call them "Support Staff"
Noel at Liberty Church, Ireland
I like volunteer staff also.
we call ours The Team, it gives ownership and value as well as belonging to something bigger.
when we have volunteer nights we called them "Heroes Night"
