Had a great phone conference with my publisher today. I really need to figure out what book to write next. I feel like I've got the mustard seed, but sure would appreciate your prayers. I never want to write to write. I want to write because I can't not write. I feel like God is giving me a passion and vision for the next book. I just feel like I'm a little behind the curve already. Really want to get on a writing pace where I release a book a year.

Wow, you don't know how much reading this post did for me. God just reminded me of a vision He placed in my heart! Thanks Mark!
that's awesome... being behind the curve is a great place to be! As you know, it allows God to be God. Mark you are doing an amazing job. Keep up the great work!

Your readers want you to get to that place too! It's admirable to not want to write just to write. The cool thing is that you know in your heart what you need to write...you just need to dig it out. Thanks for always following God!
Mark, your working on book 3, right? Would you mind sharing a little about how you got book 1 published?
BTW - Great job with "Wild Goose Chase". Thanks
Self-published a book to prove to myself that I could do. And have two others published. So I guess I'm working on #4.
I've blogged quite a bit about the journey. If you search my blog using "publisher" or "writing journey" I think it'll turn up quite a bit.
Mark
Mark,
You should totally continue the whole animal kingdom thread. You've titled a book after a mammal and a bird. You need to go for a fish or reptile next. Feel free to use any of these suggestions:
Slaying the Dragon
Jumping the Shark
In a Can With a Tuna
Licking the Frog
For the dedication page, my name is spelled J-E-F-F M-Y-E-R-S.
what a great nudge for me. I know that the vision that i have for LightHouse can be a great one if I believe that the Lord will bring all things to past. Good Word
Dude, when do you sleep? You amaze me with all you have allowed God to accomplish through you. Just got Wild Goose Chase and can't wait to dig into it. I'm praying God really inspires you as you listen for His voice. Love this quote......"The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas."~ Linus Pauling Lord, give Him lots of ideas!
Please (if it's God's will and all that jazz)write a book for preachers. Not that the other 3 aren't great for preachers. But I'd love for you to talk to the tribe in our language about the fight and the journey that only we can truly understand. As a veteran I love doing ministry with soldiers because of our shared scars and experiences. There is something almost magical that happens when Vets get together and share war stories. I believe you have some great words for your brothers in arms (pastors), especially the privates and newbies.
I thought it was on overcoming your Reticular Activating System?
Goodness, a book a year! Yikes!
I'm interested to see how you went about the publisher thing, because I am a writer myself.
I can't imagine getting one out every year, maybe every other year, but not every year. Wow!
Oh, dude, check out my blog that I recently started, under inspiration from In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. It's called Right-Brained Church. See it at right-brainedchurch.blogspot.com
Thank you for your heart and passion for what you do.
Man you inspire many by your blogs,so why not pray about a devotional book? I come to your site every day sometimes 2 times to see if you added to it. Pray about it,would that stop me or others from coming to your blog no,we need fresh insight from the man of GOD
Writing a book must be hard, sort of like starting a Revolution.

Mark, I know this sounds so cliche, but your books have truly changed my life. Please continue to let God work through you and keep writing. We are ready for #4!! :-)
stopping to pray right now!
Hi Pastor Mark,
I've been following your blog for some time and reading In a Pit with a Lion now - it is changing my perspective on my life, ministry and the dreams God has placed in my heart! Thank you for your ministry, I'm learning a lot from you and feel like you're a mentor from afar!
Hope you have a blast writing your next book! Looking forward to it already :)

I am changing my perspective on my youth ministry and my approach to Gods role for me in His Kingdom work. I thank you and your book, in all honesty, I am stealing the themes from Expect the Unexpected for a sermon I am preaching on the 28th of Dec.. Hope you don't mind. In a Pit... came in Gods time to me, your next book will come in Gods time to you, no matter how bad you want it. I will pray God speaks through you in His time and His way again. I am a amazed by the wisdom God has blessed you with. May God continue to bless you and may you be still (as the Psalmist writes).
I've been on the retail side of the Christian book biz for 34 years now, but have also had opportunity to hear some authors speak candidly about their side of the publishing equation.
All I can say Mark is, take your time. Don't let the publisher rush you. Don't feel that a "book a year" is a necessary goal. Wait for God to lead you into something that fills you with passion and excitement, so that, as you put it, you can't not write it.
We've seen the remainder bins full of an author's 3rd or 5th or 7th book that was nothing more than the completion of a contractual obligation. Go far quality (as you have so far) not quantity.
Your books changed my life! I will be praying for you.
Blessings
I am enjoying reading your new book as much as "In a Pit". Please continue writing under the guidance and leadership of the Holy Spirit.
