While in NYC we visited the museum at Ground Zero.
In a word? Intense.
A few things struck me.
The cranes and construction. The faces and the names of the victims. Personalized the tragedy in a profound way! The view from the church cemetery across the street was surreal and serene. And finally, the museum displays that had the most impact where the personal articles that were recovered from the acres of debris. The picture I'm posting includes a bank deposit from the morning of 9/11. Something about that impacted me deeply.

Definitely know what you are talking about with Ground Zero. Lived in NYC for several years after 9/11 and made several mini-pilgrimages to the site.
Not many outside the city know that on each anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, two towers of light are lit from the site in remembrance of the victims on during the evening.
The effect is something that borders on the ethereal, hauntingly beautiful, staggeringly tragic. A moment for quiet contemplation and prayer.

I'll bet that visiting there was a touching experience. One day, I want to take my kids there with me and visit it.
