Weather Flashbacks

Bookmark and Share

I'm having weather flashbacks today. It's pretty cold in DC. But it's freezing in Chicago. I heard it was the coldest day in a decade! Which brings me to my flashback.

Back in the day, Lora and I were starving seminary students at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. It was so cold and our car was so bad that I had to start our car every three hours to keep the battery from dying. Yes, I'm a lifetime member of the Junky Car Club. I remember braving fifty below wind-chill to run the car at midnight, three AM, and six AM. Painful memories!

Ouch, I can almost feel that pain. Hopefully you don't need to do that anymore :-)

In fact, my wife has an autostart on her car. I'm jealous ;-)

I'm living it right now - my 2000 Honda CR-V doesn't like the cold, and I'm going out to our parking garage at work every 3 hours to start it up and make sure it's happy. Which reminds me, it's been almost three hours - time to put on the parka and get out there....

When I was in seminary in Kentucky, I had to do the same thing. Our first winter they set a record, -22. Being from NC, we didn't know about the "crank the car every 3 hours." After new battery, we still had to crank up every few hours to keep going.
