Just added my 5000th friend on Facebook. Sure enough, they cut me off. When I try to accept friend requests it says: the limit is 5000 friends.
Still not sure what I'm going to do because I want to continue connecting. Might create a second account. Don't really want to create a fan page. I'm not 100% opposed, it just feels weird for NCCers or my kids to be fans vs. friends. Know what I'm saying?
For what it's worth, my 5000th friend is Ken Murphy.

PM, it must be hard being wicked cool....or should I say the bomb.com
i'm all for a 2nd fan page!
miss you guys!!
I wonder if Facebook will bring out a different level of account that charges you a certain amount of money to have more friends? Like a Facebook pro user. Time will tell.
i would message the creators or post a FAQ or something...they'll get back to you and maybe they'll let you keep going...who knows?!
I will carry the title with honor, Mark!
my wife and i were talking about that limit of friends - one thing you might think about is to create a group and invite people to that. might be worth at least a look to see if it works for you.
"For what it's worth..." you couldn't have asked for a better person to have as your "last friend" (if you are forced to stop at 5000). Ken is worth a lot!
Long-time lurker and have attended NCC a few times (and actually a Facebook friend). Just a thought on this - don't see a problem with a "fan" page for people who are fans of NCC or your books and don't know you personally. Just a thought.
FYI....Facebook is going to drop the friend limit. So, it might not hurt to create a fan page for NCC and put in there that as soon as they drop the friend limit, you'll start adding friends again. Or, do the multiple profile accounts then have people merge to the old account. Complicated I know, but here is an article I came across today:

So Mark,
I am one of the 5000 friends you have. However I also subscribe to your blog over the google blog reader. So if you want to kick me off your friends list to make room for one more, that would be okay with me. I'll still keep in touch this way.
When I grow up I want to have 5000 friends too!
Blessings,
Dave
