I met with a couple groups of pastors and students today. Just thought I'd share a couple of my favorite quotes that always seem to come up in settings like that.
Oswald Chambers said, "Let God be as original with others as He was with you." Such a great guiding principle. That is why I try to speak to leaders descriptively instead of prescriptively.
Every leader ought to have this Abraham Lincoln quote memorized: "You can please all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." So true!
For what it's worth, I think every leader ought to have an arsenal of quotes that become guiding principles for their lives. And hopefully, some of our quotes become guiding principles for others!

I happen to agree...I feel everyone should have a quote or two that helps them along...
Here are some of my favorites:
"Don't pray that God will bless what you're doing, instead pray that you would do what God is blessing."
"If you wait for perfect conditions you'll never get anything done."
"The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior."
And the best one is...
"You're only young once, but you can be immature forever!" ;-)
"Your more likely to act yourself into feeling than to feel yourself into acting" -- in other words, don't wait to be motivated before you do something. Just do something and the motivation will follow
"Small dreams do not inflame the hearts of men." ~Bill Bright
I agree Mark. I also think that is good to challenge yourself to come up with a quaote that guides you. I'm pretty amature at it but one that I came up with recently has really helped me with stopping the lame excuses. "An excuse is permission from yourself to yourself to soothe yourself and hide yourself from being yourself" probably only makes sense to me, but I guess that is the whole point.
It was good to be with you today.

Here's one of my all time favorite quotes:
I am a Christian because I have seen the love of God lived out in the people who know Him. The Word has become flesh and I have encountered God in the people who have manifested (in many "unreasonable" ways) His Presence; a presence that is more than convincing, it is a Presence that is compelling. I am a Christian not because someone explained the nuts and bolts of Christianity to me, but because there were people who were willing to be the nuts and bolts, who through their explanation of it, held it together so that I could experience it and be compelled by it to obey. "If I be lifted up," Jesus said, "I will draw all men unto me." - Rich Mullins
