One Church For Life

Bookmark and Share

I was talking to a friend today and telling them that one of my dreams is to pastor one church for life. I have absolutely no desire to be anyplace else doing anything else. I don't care how many people or how much money a church had. There isn't even an ounce of temptation.

I'd never thought about it or described it this way, but I said it'd be like putting one of my kids up for adoption. Can't imagine it. I love National Community Church and I love Washington, DC. I want to spend the rest of my life giving everything I've got to this church and this city. Then you can cremate me and scatter my ashes in the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial. If that is legal, of course!

Mark,

That's was my pastor,s goal 17 years ago...at age 44, he's still pastoring the same church. What a testimony! I'm sure God will honor your dream!

Hate to bust your bubble Mark....:):)

you may need to have love ones spread those ashes at night under cover of darkness...National Park regs prohibit the spreading of human ashes... see the link, Section 2.62(b):

(as a lawyer, I had to follow up on that statement....:))

David,

Funny! Can you imagine what a news story that would be? Grieving family arrested for putting ashes in reflecting pool :)

Jerry Falwell was one of my heroes and this was one of the things I really respected him for. He was a "one church for lifer". Over 50yrs at TRBC in Lynchburg VA.

It looks like the Reflecting Pool has had some goofy things scattered in it over the years :)

While I agree with this and prayed for it regularly... sometimes God just plans something completely different for us.

When I left the business world to go into ministry I thought it was going to be at our home church where we came to Christ and grew in our faith. God called us out of there despite the fact that we never wanted to leave.

God sent us to a very different and unique place and culture... and I started praying again that I would be there for life... but again, after 2.5 short years, while everything was going GREAT God called us out again...

So now I find myself in an entirely new and strange and fascinating place. A place I would never imagine myself or would pray that I would end up... but that's where he sent us.

Of course, now I'm praying again that I'll never leave. But won't knock myself down as a pastor if God says it's time to leave again :)
