Parker and I went on our inaugural run today. We're beginning to train for a sprint triathlon in September. It's actually the same triathlon we did last year. Crossing that finish line with Parker last year is an amazing memory! And creating memories is one of my primary responsibilities as a parent.
I think its easy for relationships to stagnate. It doesn't matter whether its families or marriages or churches, you need a common goal. It gives you something to work for. And it makes you work together. If you've ever been on a team you know what I'm talking about. Sweat is glue. The more you sweat working toward a common goal the greater the bond. I'm trying to do that with my kids via common goals.

Mark, I learn a lot from you as a pastor and author. I learn even more from you as a dad. Thanks for sharing.
Mark,
Can I just say that if you ever write a book on fatherhood, I would be one of the first in line to purchase that book. Ever thought about that as a book topic at some point?
Also, any recommendations on good books on fatherhood? My wife is pregnant with our first child, and I have to admire your perspective on fatherhood. Keep it up!
Kevin
Thanks for the kind words guys. Man, I'm trying! That's for sure. I do have a book for dads up my sleeve but it is a few years out.
Suggestions? Hmmmm. I try to read everything I can get my hands on when it comes to parenting. For a practical standpoint, I really like "Raising a Modern Day Knight." Good hands on tool...
Mark
