We've got a brainstorming session with our creative team today. Trying to figure out what sermon series we want to do in August and September.
What sermon series do you have planned for the summer and fall?

We are thinking about doing a series called "Voices" in the early fall. The idea comes from proverbs about "Wisdom" & "Folly" and how they call out to people. So we were thinking about doing a 6wk series and hit 3 subjects for two weeks. Money for sure, maybe: relationships...what would you suggest.
Hope this helps
We are starting a series in July called "life on the shore". It is a look at Jesus teachings in Matthew 13 by the sea of galilee
We are doing a series in August called "The Classics" with the subtitle "Encounters With Jesus". This is volume two of The Classics because last August we did one on "Classic Old Testament Characters". We are basically going through the "classic" stories in the gospels between Jesus and some individual, e.g., The Woman at the Well, Nicodemus, Peter's Restoration, The Woman Caught in Adultery, etc. These classic encounters are ones that everyone should know from Sunday School. They are "The Classics".
In September we are doing a series on evangelism called "Beautiful Feet". We got the idea from Ed Young's C3 Conference. It comes out of Romans 10 and Isaiah 52. "How beautiful are the feet of those that bring good news!"
We are doing a money series in July. Not a TITHING/STEWARDSHIP series, but a financial wisdom series. Most of our people WANT to give more, but don't manage well enough to make it happen.
August we are looking at doing a God @ the movies series. Examining some of the top movies of the last year with a biblical worldview in mind.
September- maybe doing a Man Series--hitting some 'dude' topics- Sex, pride, power. Not much of plan yet.
We have declared 2009 the "Year of Doctrine" and so we are preaching through the doctrines of the faith. We have already preached through salvation, the sovereignty of God, the providence of God, and the communicable and incommunicable attributes of God. We just finished up on evangelism and worship and are now moving into the person and work of Jesus Christ. That should take us through to the fall. We believe that it is important that everyone be able to give a reason for the Hope that lives inside of them and for everyone to be able to defend what they believe and why they believe it.
We are going to do a series called "The Basics." The series is intended to teach theology. We have a lot of new believers and I feel God wants us to give them a good foundation so they will be able to know what they believe, why they believe it, and can defend their faith at work, school, etc. Basic apologetics.
We're walking through the book of Acts through the summer. Each month is a new "series" though, as we break it up in themes. This fall we are doing a family series called, "Rethinking the Family Feud." Then it's on to "Caged" walking through a book called Wild Goose Chase, I think you're familiar with that one, right?
July - A series called "Fearless" based on David's encounter with Goliath.
August - We do a huge family outreach event to kick off August, and then follow it up with a 3 week parenting series.
September - We are launching another site with a series called "No Perfect People"...it's really a vision series for the DNA of our church packaged around themes of: authenticity, brokenness, acceptance, and trust.
October - A series called "Uncertainty" focusing on the certainty of who God is in the middle of uncertain times.

I have an idea for a sermon series called PARADOX.
Week 1: Tithing (90% blessed is better than 100% cursed)
Week 2: Sabbath Day's Rest (6 Days blessed is better than 7 days cursed)
Week 3: Serving (the world measures success by how many people serve you, but God measures success by how many people you serve)
Week 4: Grace (we're saved by faith, but works matter)
We are using your 6 cages that trap you stuff from, "Wild Goose Chase". We have added a few of our own and our stretching the series out to nine weeks. We typically do this in the summer. We are calling the series, "The Zoo", tagged with, "The Great Escape". We are approaching this with a "lighter" feel when it comes to our decor being that it is summer. We are also having people follow this series in various ways this summer as well. They will be reading daily devotions/blogs, memorizing scripture, and discussing the topics in small groups. We are even taking zoo trips and aquarium trips together as a church and having Grillin and Chillin nights that are all part of this theme. It should be a fun summer!
I'm kicking off a series this weekend entitled "God's Antidote to Stress" based on Psalm 23. We'll focus on the themes of worry, hurt and discouragement.
In August, we'll do a series entitled "Being a Thermostat" based on Acts 28:27-36. It focuses on how to impact the spiritual temperature of your environment.
In September, we're kicking off a series entitled "Chasing the Wild Goose" based on your book. We'll give away a free copy of your book to everyone in attendance.
"Stories of the Prodigal" - we'll look at the son, the father, and then the older brother from lk 15.
"The gospel according to Ruth" - we'll show how the story of this brave woman is a symbol of Jesus and his salvation plan for us.
The month of July is a series titled "What I Wish Someone Had Told me" it's a walk through some life lessons out of proverbs.
Then August into September will be a "Home Improvement" series where we will take on family life issues; finances, parenting, marriage.
Our summer series is called "Stories." We're preaching the parables of Jesus.
We're starting a series next week called "Once Upon a Time....For Such a Time as This" - A study throught the book of Esther.
Then in August we have a short series called "Picnic with a Purpose" - a look a the feeding of the 5,000
This Sunday we kick off a 3 week series called "Crave" about craving the things of God. Making lots of sensory ties with food for this one.
Then doing a 3 week series called "Hollywood Christianity" based on Matthew 6. basically a modern twist on living like Pharisees and not having your faith be a set of surface, superficial rules.
Starting a 3 week series in late August called "Karma". Basically disproving this secular theory with biblical truths.
Then we move to a 3 week series called "Fanatic" basically making the sports fan tie with being a Jesus fanatic.
Then we kick off a 6 week series called "Epic" about the grand story of God and how he used 6 central characters from the Bible in His story.
that takes us to November!
July --- "Red, White & YOU" --- about serving & missions
August --- back2basics --- fundamentals of faith along with outreach to school children
September --- 40 Days of Love
Thanks for all your creative sharing, Mark!
I am doing a 9 week series called "Winners vs. Losers." We're going to examine a winner one week, a loser the next, etc. These people we're studying are people from various places in the Bible and their classification comes from how the world would view them. We will examine their story and see how the way the world views a person is not the same way that God views them - usually the opposite! Example of a "winner" - King Nebuchanezzar. Example of a "loser" - Joseph from Genesis. Main points we are hitting on - the importance of the relationship with God (evident in all the "losers", non-existent with the "winners"). Another main point - we don't do good things so that we have a right relationship with God; Jesus died on the cross to give us a right relationship with God, and when we accept it and live in it we just want to do good things. Last week will be a wrap up week to bring all the ideas together.
- oh yeah, and I'm not preaching this, I'm teaching the high school class at my church and this is our summer series.
Road to Joy,
Jumping from the Macedonians in 2 Cor. whose Joy mixed with their poverty and produced generosity. What kind of Joy does that? How is it different from the joy the world offers, How can we have it?
Doing a series called Crazy in August...focusing on our crazy calling, our crazy mission as a church (it's our anniversary), and showing crazy love to our community.
this will lead us into September, where we're doing a series called Amazing Grace, where we will basically present the gospel.
The idea is for these two series to go hand in hand...fire our people up about our mission and challenge them to invite, and then follow up with a series built on the Gospel.
August - "TBA" walking through 1 Thessalonians 4 & 5 talking about Jesus' return
September - "Circles" - - vision series using 2 Cor 5:16-21 & our three key words Transformed, Equipped, Gloryify
October/November - - "Rock Band" - - six weeks in the Psalms
We're doing a great series in August called "Elephant In The Church" unpacking divorce, addiction, abortion, sexuality, and suicide. And in September a "Super Parent" series.
We're doing a 6-WEEK SERIES called JESUS FOR THE NON-RELIGIOUS
>> Losing my religion (Outreach event)
>> What about religious fanatics?
>> I like Jesus but not the church.
>> Judgmental, hypocritical Christians.
>> A church for the non-religious.
>> The kind of religion I could buy into. (40hr Famine Weekend)

I've got a lot of people who struggle with self-doubt. So in August, we'll be doing a series called "Slumdog Disciples". We'll look at different people in the Bible that God used despite and through their weaknesses.
In September we are doing a series called "Spiritual Health Care" -
Shifting our mindset from using our faith like health insurance when something goes wrong, to doing the daily spiritual exercises that will strengthen our relationship and trust in Jesus so we are "spiritually fit" to weather the tough times of life and raise our quality of life from day to day.
We have two short summer series (importance of the church and church life; end times) to deal with some specific issues in our church and community.
This fall I'll be teaching an 8-week series through Philippians on spiritual attitudes and actions.
Our August series is called "STUCK" - we are going to deal with the children of Isreal and relating their 40 year journey to everyday issues.
In September we are doing a Vision series called "GROUNDSWELL". In it we wil talk about the impact of the early church and the characteristics that cause growth.
After that we are doing a series called "CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE".
In the fall I am doing a teaching series on a guide to life by Solomon. Taking advice from the wisest man to ever live. These are thoughts on life, marriage, raising kids, business, leadership etc from the book of proverbs
We landed on our Fall series last week for Winston-Salem First Assembly (Pastor Mike Rakes)...Echo: Truth through the Ages, a series on the minor prophets and how the Word of God brings hope and life while Satan's words are full of lies and destruction. We had considered the title: Hope Found in a Word. Great content, lots of strong creative ideas already on the table.
We are beginning a series this Sunday called "Giving God First Place." I will be preaching through Philippians and concentrating on the theme of putting Christ first in everything. For video support we will be using clips from iamsecond.com to illustrate how well-known public figures have put God first in their lives.
God On the Billboards: The Classics. Tying classic rock songs from 70s to now to classic Bible stories.....
We are in a series called "The Power of ONE." It's about what can happen when ONE person steps out. It's about what can happen when we are in unity and when we paddle as one (Hawaiian canoe, being from Hawaii) with one heart, one purpose, at the same cadence, in the same direction. When the six people in the canoe paddle like this, it's as if the canoe is being paddled by ONE canoe.
Last week we wove Father's Day into it (power of a dad) and this week off of Philippians 2 (unity)and what happens when we have the same HEART, MIND and PURPOSE.
Next week is ONE person reaching their nation/workplace/school. All it takes is ONE.
July - "Linked" We are better together.
August- "Made" God, not culture, determines how we're made.
Sept. -"One life to live" Based on One Month to Live
Each summer we do a character study, but this summer we're doing a twist on it. We are doing a series called "Heart Check" with Proverbs 4:23 as the anchor.
We're looking at people in the Bible who got it wrong and what we can learn from them. They all had heart issues (Cain - jealousy; Esau - instant gratification; Balaam - stubborness; Saul; Sampson - not finishing well; Mikal - reserving worship from God; Rehoboam - poor leadership decisions; Judas - God in our own image)
We follow a lectionary. Each week we have a predetermined set of readings - an Old Testament, an Epistle, and a reading from one of the Holy Gospels. We also chant one of the Psalms. I've been in other churches that don't use a lectionary and I find it great for several reasons:
1. It helps a pastor to teach the whole council of God rather than getting stuck on one of his pet peeves.
2. It helps a pastor to put the Word of God first. I've seen countless examples of pastors who decide what they want to say, THEN go to scripture to back it up. This is "man centered" preaching rather than "God-centered" preaching.
3. Because the readings are predetermined, the laity has the ability to read ahead and be familiar with the text before Sunday worship.
4. Within a three year period, we will read through the entire New Testament and a rather large portion of the Old Testament.
This summer (June & July) we have focused the attention of our people on outward ministry with a series, Salt & Light. Anticipating several major transitions this Fall to position us to be a more Kingdom-focused church, our August series, BOLD, is rooted in Ephesians 6:10-20. Blessings.
Christmas in July: Teaching on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, cranking up the air conditioning, setting up the tree and lights.
Good times.
