Now that I'm out of my intense writing season I can start reading again! I'm actually putting together my summer reading list. I've got 87 unread books that lie horizontal on my shelf. Once I read them they go vertical. Hoping to read 25 books this summer.
Less Clutter. Less Noise.
by Kem Meyer
Everything says something about everything. This book will help you evaluate how you communicate. And there is a quote on page 151 that is worth the price of the book.

Unfashionable
by Tullian Tchividjian
There comes a point in your leadership journey where "cool" doesn't cut it. In fact, you want to be uncool. Or to use Tullian's terminology: Unfashionable. This book will challenge you to example your motivations and methodologies. What Charles Spurgeon said a long time ago is still true: "He who marries today's fashion is tomorrow's widow."

My goal for this year is to read one book a week. I've never done that before. I'm on track so far. Just wondering...WHEN do you do your reading mainly? What time(s) of the day. Do you just read or do you listen to audio books too? Please email mike@newdaychurch.cc (www.newdaychurch.cc). Thanks!
whoa. i completely just posted a blog about my recent reading list too! way fun.
what others are still "horizontal" in your collection?
what are your "top" favorites? any standout, life-impacting reads?
more info! :)
I read in the mornings and on study days. Oh yeah, the bathroom too!

I'm also lookin' into doing alot of reading this summer. You think you could share more books that you've got on your shelf. Please e-mail chungster4jc@gmail.com Thanks!
I'll definitely post some more updates...
Horizontal to vertical--that's my system, too. Only problem is, not enough time to read more books into the vertical position. ::sigh:: I'm having trouble fitting fun reading time around required reading for summer classes.
What I want to know is how do you make the time to write? Do you use a string of guest speakers to give you a lengthy break? Come on and share your secret, thanks!
Hey Craig,
When do I write? Early in the morning :) During a writing season I try to get in several hours of writing before my day officially begins at 9 AM. I also try to schedule "blocks" of time where I'm not doing sermon prep. I can usually knock out a chapter of a book in one week if I'm not preaching.
I think everybody has to find their rhythm. For me, it's definitely early mornings!
Mark
Thanks Mark, I appreciate the feedback on the rhythm that works for you!
