Accumulate Experiences

Bookmark and Share

One of the most memorable days of my life involved being held up at gunpoint by Ethiopian Shepherds, swimming in a natural spring heated by a volcano, and sitting on top of a Land Rover doing a game drive in Awash National Park. I think you'll agree, that's a full day!

I'll never forget sitting in my pup tent at the end of the day, surrounded by about fifty baboons of every size, and feeling like the Holy Spirit spoke this truth to my spirit: don't accumulate possessions, accumulate experiences. That maxim has become a personal mantra.

All of that to say this, let me share a cool opportunity to accumulate an experience. I got a unique speaking invitation about a year ago from Joel Malm and Summit Leaders. They asked if I'd be the "trail mentor" while hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Long story short, I'd like to extend an invitation to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm bringing Parker with me. I think it'd make an amazing Father/Son experience. In fact, it'll be over Father's Day next June.

Check it out.

Couldn't agree more. My wife and I have done everything we can to build up airline miles over the past 6-7 years and its given us some amazing experiences.

Just got done hiking to Machu Picchu a few weeks back with some friends from our small group. We did the hike on the Salkantay trail, 42 miles of up and down hiking at around 9-12,000 feet. Legs and knees aching. If you didn't lose your breath because of the hike, the sights definitely took it all away. Some absolutely amazing views. Sounds like an incredible father son trip.

yep,I am constantly finding myself in the strangest places and wondering how on the earth did I end up there? Every time I laugh at the thought. The memory book in my mind is full of the greatest pictures. These experiences and memories are the things that rust does not corrupt and thieves can not break thru and steal. But hey, your experience at being held at gunpoint sounds thrilling!

I went to Africa on a missions trip... that in itself was off the chain!
The second part of my journey was a moment and "experience" I shall carry with me the rest of my life.

We were going to go swimming with the whales (whale shark) off the Coast of the Indian Ocean in Tofu Africa! I had never been snorkeling, nor had I EVER even been up close and personal with a whale. They took us out in a Zodiak boat (rubber with motor) and they told us if we should see a whale, gently drop yourself in the water and begin to swim.

They saw the whale and the excitment in this rubberboat was beyond words. People started "slipping" into the water, I on the other had could feel my heart pounding in my ears. I did slip into the water as gently as I could, there was a splash involved... I figured out how to breathe with the device in my mouth and the mask on my face. I began to swim and then I realized "What the heck am I doing, I am in the middle of the Indian Ocean with a whale!!!"
I swam back to the side of the boat, when a friend yelled, "Put your face in the water, the whale is coming right at you!" I put my mask in the water... and at that moment the most MASSIVE whale shark swam right under my feet... it was very surreal.. very quiet... just me God and the whale.. time stood still. I understood at that moment the whole story of Jonah and the Whale.. and yes, I could have lived in his belly! Looking forward to many more breathtaking experiences with God!
