Had an amazing weekend at Woodlands Church. I spoke at their I2 conference a few years ago so there was already a connection point. Plus the staff and quite a few people in the church had already read In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. So I really felt at home.
A few reflections.
I never cease to be amazed at the way a church reflects a pastor and staff. It's uncanny. Really impressed with the hospitality. Especially in light of how huge the church is.
While signing books I met a girl from China who spoke broken English. It was her first time ever in a church. She said she'd never forget it. Felt like an international divine appointment.
My last reflection is this. When I got to Woodlands Church I couldn't believe how many cars were in the turn lane. And I had this thought: how cool that a church is causing a traffic jam. We need a few more traffic jam churches.

I remember feeling that same thing at The Potter's House in Dallas, TX and at New Spring in Anderson, SC. It is great to see so many people excited about being in church that you have to have a parking ministry and police officers to get people in and out of the parking lot!
My husband and I just moved to DC from CO. The church we attended and worked with there, Timberline Church, causes the entire town to avoid one of the four major roads that run north and south on Saturdays and Sundays. Traffic to turn into the church is always backed up at least half a mile and there are police officers directing traffic all morning. Quite the impact!
It made me think, "How many other places would people be willing to wait in this kind of traffic for?" I know I personally can't think of many!
Thank you so much for the message God spoke through you yesterday at Woodlands Church, Mark. My wife and I were blessed, energized, and we left with a longing to store up experiences rather than possessions.
Thanks again.
