Got a Coach?

Bookmark and Share

Over the next week I want to do a series of blogs on mentoring.

One of the most memorable and pivotal experiences of my ministry was going through the school of pastoral nurture with Jack Hayford about seven years ago. We hung out with Jack. Ate dinner at his house. It was high-octane Jack Hayford. I think I took more away from that mentoring experience than a decade of conferences combined. Mentoring takes leadership development to another level because it's relational not just informational.

Because that experience was so pivotal in my life, I've always wanted to do something like that. I certainly love spending a little time with a lot of leaders speaking at conferences, but I've always wanted to spend a lot of time with a few leaders. Long story short, I'm going to. Here's the skinny.

The Partners in Church Consulting asked if I'd consider joining their coaches network. I felt like it was the right network at the right time. So here's the scoop. I'll mentor 12 leaders over 6 months. There is a price tag. And it's first come first serve. I'm already praying and believing that God has his hand on the twelve leaders he wants me to pour my life into. I really believe it's going to be an incredibly synergistic and catalytic experience.

Check it out.

I wouldn't be who I am in Christ or in ministry if my mentor hadn't taken the time to teach and model what a woman of God should be. I am so grateful!

Mentoring is a major relationship commitment that pays kingdom dividends. I'm been the fortunate recipient of some great mentors that have had a huge impact on our ministry! Look forward to seeing you this week Mark.

That's so cool. I actually *just* wrote a post on me needing to actively pursue mentors.

Mentoring is so important.

I'm kind of puzzled, though, as to why such a hefty cost is being charged ($750 per session, I believe). Did Jack Hayford charge you? Did the Apostle Paul charge Timothy?

I appreciate your blog.

Lisa,

Timothy didn't pay Paul, but Paul did get a full-time intern :)

The cost is set by PCC, but there are discounts. And, yes, the school of pastoral nurture did cost money. More than any conference I've ever been too. But it was worth the investment.

For the record, I informally mentor lots of leaders at no expense. And I love it. But this is more extensive and more official, thus the cost. It might be more on par with a taking a graduate course or hiring a consultant.

Hope that makes sense.

Blessings,

Mark

Thanks for your perspective, and your heart to pour yourself into other leaders this way.

I am just trying to find the line between a worker being worthy of his support, and freely giving when we have freely received.

Blessings,
Lisa

Hey Mark,
I think it's worth every penny and I am hoping to be able to do it. Talking it over with the board as we speak. So glad to see you are doing this.
