Sin Deterrant and Faith Accelerant

Bookmark and Share

I know of no greater sin deterrent and faith accelerant than simply reading the Bible on a daily basis. There is no substitute. There is no shortcut.

Of course, it takes more than reading. The Bible wasn't just meant to be read. It was meant to be meditated. Reading without meditating is like eating without digesting. We don't absorb all the nutrients. May God give us a ravenous appetite for His word.

Reading results in one-dimensional knowledge.
Meditating results in two-dimensional revelation.
Obedience results in three-dimensional faith.

Read it. Meditate on it. Live it out.

Hey Mark,

Your post reminded me of something...

My childhood pastor talked about a simple saying that he was taught and wrote in the front of his Bible...

"This book will keep you from sin and sin will keep you from this book."

A great book on this subject is Wayne Cordeiro's The Divine Mentor.

This is something that I have personally adopted in my life and ministry based on a Hybels' talk years ago where he encouraged us to read "at least one chapter a day" - and it has been life-transforming. I have made it a mantra in the church that I lead - "at least one chapter a day" - thank you, Mark.

Simple and to the point, and filled with truth ... love your one dimensional, two dimensional, thought.

Keep coming with the good thoughts.
